I'm not an instant messanger and I don't have a facebook account so perhaps I'm just not someone who can appreciate the merits of Twitter. I bet my 11 year old would love it though! I liked the description I read that said something to the effect that "if you need to know when a friend of yours is eating soup or has picked his toenail then this is the site for you."

Folksonomy
From what I can tell "Folksonomy" is a natural progession to tagging. It is a group of people who create and manage their tags. The difference between this and traditional catagorization seems to be that the tags used are created to make sense to the creator. Your folksonomy would then be comprised of like minded people.

Librarything, Flickr and Del.icio.us
If I had to pick which one of the above three tools I liked best, I would have to go with Libraything. I know it is something I will use in the future when I am looking for something to read. To automatically find a listing of people with similar tastes is wonderful, especially when you are someone who likes variety.
Flickr was a neat tool as well. I use picasa for editing my pictures, so its nice to know there is an option if I want to share etc.
Del.icio.us reminds me too much of the piles of articles I used to have waiting to read when I got a chance (and rarely did).
